6- Build your future on high ground.
When Superstorm Sandy hit the New York City area last year, entire communities were ravaged. Breezy Point, Queens suffered a tremendous fire. Houses in the Rockaways and on Long Island were flooded out. In the aftermath, there were the usual what-ifs and if-onlys that could have saved these neighborhoods. Hindsight is always 20/20 vision. Now while hindsight cannot fix what is already broken, it can fix what we do in the future. We can use the lessons we learned to save ourselves. God works the same way. The Bible IS hindsight. It tells us what happens to people who do not obey God. Noah’s neighbors ignored God’s calling and they drowned. Sodom and Gomorrah were annihilated because they sinned against God. Ananias and Sapphira lied to Peter about the money they received from the sale of a piece of land and were immediately struck down and killed. And while the Bible is full of lessons on what we should NOT do, it’s also just as packed with lessons on what we SHOULD do. When God calls, the righteous answer immediately. The poor widow gives her last two mites to the temple. The Ethiopian eunuch is baptized just moments after he hears the good news of Jesus Christ from Philip. The Bible is not just a book of stories, it is a useful, priceless tool. Use it wisely.
